Ballard is truly a dot on the map – a town of less than 1,000 population in Santa Barbara County, one-half hour drive north of the City of Santa Barbara. The town was founded in 1880 at the site of a Wells Fargo station. The Little Red School House, which still stands, was built in 1882. The town is in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley, the wine hot area of Santa Barbara County. From the inn, you are in easy driving distance to Solvang, Lompoc, Los Olivos and the rest of the beautiful valley countryside.
In the middle of Ballard stands the completely charming Ballard Inn, a great location for a romantic get-a-way. The 15 guest rooms are warm, welcoming, carefully appointed and comfortably elegant.
The restaurant, on the ground floor, is equally romantic, intimate and worthy of a visit. Breakfast is included for guests of the inn and is sumptuous. The Restaurant, with just 12 tables, is open to the public for dinner. The menu tilts toward a French/Asian influence and changes frequently, so check the web site for a sample. But those of us who treasure the likes of foie gras, Korubuta pork belly, well thought out salads, “Tom Yum” sea food, duck breast, or quality beef will not be disappointed.
Packages that include room, breakfast and dinner vouchers are available.
